on the ranch with tom

It’s all about the love

Tom and I met in California and were best friends for ten years before we got hitched in 2007. Together we roamed the Southwest before landing at my family’s ranch in Texas sixteen years ago to help care for my dad, who has Alzheimer’s. While we couldn’t have kids, we realized our dream of having a family could come to be in a less conventional way. My city slicker husband said he had always dreamed of having alpacas, which made me chuckle. Lo and behold, when we arrived in Texas, a herd of 26 alpacas happened to need a home, we had the space, and Tom’s dream came true. Over the years, our motley crew has grown to sixty creatures, great and small. Now, Tom is the alpaca whisperer, and I lovingly refer to myself as ‘Mother of Beasts.’ Proceeds go back into the herd to help with the cost of caring for these enchanting creatures, so they can have their best life.

Every single day, we get to live out our family motto: “It’s all about the love.”  We are so fortunate and so very happy you’re here. Thank you for helping to support our sweet sanctuary herd.

Tom and Kari’s compassionate spirit extends beyond their ranch as they dedicate themselves to an alpaca sanctuary herd. Rehoming these gentle creatures from challenging circumstances, they not only provide them with a safe haven but also utilize their incredibly soft fiber to craft one-of-a-kind alpaca hats and a range of home products as a result of collaboration with other passionate creatives. By combining their love for the animals with their creative talents, Tom and Kari handcraft pieces that not only showcase the remarkable qualities of alpaca fiber, but also carry a heartfelt story of transformation and resilience.
